Wingfoiling

The newest way to fly โ€” and the fastest-growing sport on the water.

Can I even do this?
  • You do not need to windsurf or kite first. Plenty of people start here.
  • You do not need to be strong. The wing pulls far less than it looks like it does.
  • It looks harder than it is. The wing on its own is easy โ€” the foil is the part you learn, and that is exactly what the lessons are for.
  • All the kit is here, including the impact vest and helmet you will want for the foiling stage.
FAQ
I've never done it. Where do I start?

With a taster. You spend it with the wing and a big floaty board, no foil involved โ€” learning what the wing does before anything else is added.

Do I need to windsurf or kite first?

No. Plenty of people start straight here, and some find it easier than windsurfing because the wing is not attached to the board.

It looks incredibly hard. Is it?

The wing on its own is genuinely easy โ€” an hour and most people are moving. The foil is the part that takes time, and that is exactly what the lessons exist for.

Isn't the foil dangerous?

It has to be respected โ€” it is sharp and it is under you. That is why the ION progression keeps you off it until handling the wing is boring, and why you get a helmet and impact vest for those sessions.

Do I need my own gear?

No. Wings, boards, foils, wetsuits and the safety kit are all here and come with your lesson.

I windsurf already โ€” does that help?

A lot. You already read the wind, know the right of way and are comfortable being out there. The board work is new; the instincts are not. Mention your windsurf level when you enquire.

How long until I am flying?

Wing and board in a couple of sessions. First proper flights on the foil usually take a few days of coaching โ€” it is the steepest bit of the sport, and then it opens right up.

What if I still don't know what to book?

Then don't choose โ€” just ask. Send an enquiry saying roughly where you are, or say it at the desk, and someone will work out what fits. Nothing is paid until the centre has confirmed it with you.

Where it takes you
The rush that sticks

The moment the foil lifts, the noise stops and you are flying above the water with nothing touching it. People describe it as the closest thing to weightlessness. It is a real adrenaline hit, and it becomes the healthiest addiction going โ€” you will be checking the forecast at breakfast for the rest of your life.

People who become the reason you return

You arrive knowing nobody and leave in a group chat. Everyone pumps up on the same beach, everyone is watching the same wind, and nobody cares what you do for a living. Friendships made out there tend to outlast the holiday.

A map that opens up

A foil flies in wind that leaves everything else on the beach, so the list of places worth going gets longer, not shorter. Karpathos, Tarifa, Dahab, Fuerteventura, Jericoacoara, Maui โ€” clips become plans.

The way you sleep

Hours of sea, sun and real physical work. You eat because you are properly hungry, you are off your phone because your hands are full, and you go to bed salty, aching and grinning. The fitness arrives without you ever calling it exercise.

And the skills underneath it: ION grades wingfoiling on six levels. You do not need to remember them โ€” your coach tracks where you are. This is just so you can see the shape of it.

How ION gets you there
Six levels, and you always know yours

Wingfoiling has its own six-level ION ladder, separate from windsurfing. Your coach signs off each skill, so you always know what you are working on next.

Safety first on the foil

A foil is sharp and it is under you. The ION progression deliberately keeps you off it until the wing is boring โ€” that is why it is level three, not level one.

Group if you want company, private if you want speed

The early wing stage works well in a group. Most people go private for their first foil sessions, because that is where one-to-one coaching saves the most time.

Tell us roughly where you are and we will come back with what to book โ€” a taster, a group lesson, or a package that takes you through the levels. Nothing to pay now.

Curious about the classic?

Windsurfing is where this whole beach came from, and on the windiest days it is still the most fun thing out there. If you wing already, you understand the wind โ€” the gear is different, the reading of the water is the same.
